Facebook & Hangers...

I have an analogy of Facebook. I have had it for a while. But it wasn't until a church friend of mine mentioned, "There comes a point in your life when you realize who really matters, who never did, and who always will." Thanks to Rodney for bringing my thoughts back to life and to the written, well typed page.

I was very reluctant to initially get on Facebook since I was concerned about all those weird people who might get my information. Little did I know that you had to "friend" someone to let them in. And yet here I am with a public blog. I see my blog as more of a ministry. (But that's a topic for another day.)

With the constant questioning on the behalf of my children and talk amongst my MUCH younger LifeGroup friends, I made the leap to "keep up". I quickly became more and more involved in the Facebook community talking to friends from the past, school friends, church friends. I had no idea I had so many friends. Then I started to collect NEW friends, bloggy friends, chat group friends, Wretched friends and homeschool-across-America-yet-we-have-similar-belief friends. My friends list has blossomed beyond my weight. Yeah - I meant that - beyond my weight.

Now where do those hangers come in? There was a great organizer that I studied once, (Yes, I'm SO OCD that I actually study organizers!) who had a theory about the closet. It went something like this..."In order to keep a hold of your ever increasing clothes accumulation, one must have a plan in place to weed out and organize clothing." Well, although I have never been a real clothes horse, (what does that really mean anyhow?) it sounded like a good idea.

I continued to read the chapter and was prompted to turn ALL of the hangers with their clothing mate on them BACKWARDS in my closet. Ok, I get it...backwards they go. Now, keep them this way for a year. Got it. Each time you replace a freshly washed garment, put it back on the hanger the original way. Ok, ok...following. Now, after a period of a year, you can tell which clothing actually gets used and which clothing is seasonal, which is never worn. Well, you get the picture.

I have used this procedure for years now and find that I no longer hang on to un-needed clothing anymore. Wait! How does Facebook connect with hangers? Ok. I suppose I should bring this story back 'round. We have different kinds of clothing in our closets. We have clothing that we hang on to because they are comfortable, daily wearing kind of apparel. We have those that are our dressy, Sunday bests. Most of us have a few pieces that we keep for sentimental reasons. And then we might even have a few pieces that "might fit me someday". Some are work wear, and one or too might just be for special occasions and only come out when the stars are shiny and the moon is just right.

Well, if I take a moment to look at my friends list on Facebook, I can almost label each one of those people with a category above. How about you? Is it time to inventory your closet?

SHEM Health Fair...

We spent the greater portion of the day yesterday working at and enjoying the 2009 SHEM/St. John's Health & Safety Fair. You can view the pictures...

I think that we will never have a problem with my children smoking after seeing how much tar you ingest into your lungs from smoking for one year. AND, after talking to the Springfield Police Man, I don't think we will have any more trouble getting Tahlia to "Buckle Up for Safety".

We are so thankful to SHEM and St. John's for all of the hard work they put into the event. I, personally, had no idea what a great event it was and HOW much time was needed to make it all work out.

On THIS Veteran's Day...

Maybe you will send a special letter of appreciation to a wonderful young man by the name of Andrew. He is just an ordinary boy who chose to serve his country to offer us continued freedom. Meanwhile, he leaves behind three sisters, a mother and a father who has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, spreading rapidly throughout his body. Andrew has a high standard of ethics and morality and I am certain that there is conflict in his heart about where he should be right now.

Please take a moment to have your children write to this soldier to keep him encouraged. He and his dad, Bob, have been my son, Hunter's Tae Kwon Do teacher for the last 5 years. I can personally vouch for this fine young man.

His contact information is...

I'm Too Busy!

What do you do when you realize that your life has been consumed with all the little details? That's what I asked myself this morning when I woke up. It was 7:30 am, thank you Lord for the time change, and I decided I might need to prioritize my day. What would be the most important thing for me to accomplish today?

For a moment, I thought of all of the things I needed to get done. But my list was un-ending. Then it occured to me, I should read the Word. So, I opened up my Bible to the tab I have marked personal study and read the next portion of scripture in Romans. What a great reminder of what the Lord has done for me. It was then that I realized that it didn't matter what order I did things in today, but that my day needed to be ordered of the Lord. No matter what we did, it had to be God honoring.

My day took on an amazing new picture. I entered my husband's hours for the day quickly, showered and started on the morning chores with general ease. Then I read Story of the World to the kids and enjoyed a moment just sitting with them. We loaded up in the van and went to pick up a friend for lunch, water the horses and to run a few errands for SHEM. So much accomplished today!

In fact, as I look back over the day, I am surprised how easily everything went. If you have read my blog for any time, you will sympathize with my struggle with chaos. I just don't survive well in a world of craziness. But today was nice.

What a great reminder - NOTE TO SELF - when your day looks like it might fall apart in the blender of life - read the Word.

Fall Pumpkin Carvings...

Although we don't celebrate Halloween, we actually do enjoy a few fall celebrations. This year was a bit tame due to the fact that my folks were here. However, we did unleash the kids on the pumpkins out front. We offered ABSOLUTELY NO supervision and ended up with...
